2018 Charlevoix Venetian Festival Games

The 2018 Venetian Games will once again feature an impressive selection of team and individual events.  Thanks to our many Game Managers and Chair, the Venetian Festival offers an array of sporting events and competitions to participate in throughout the week.  Make sure to read each event to find out how to register.


BASKETBALL


Sunday, July 22nd
Ferry Beach Courts
9 am – End

The BeachBash 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament draws hundreds of basketball players in multiple age groups.  This year’s event will continue to feature the 4th grade co-ed teams with a 9 foot rim and the co-ed Adult categories.

Pre-registration is required.  Registration will open in the spring.
Registration fee of $80 applies.

BINGO


Tuesday, July 24th
Castle Farms
1:30 pm – 4 pm

Castle Farms will again host Bingo on Venetian Tuesday and with play managed by American House Senior Living Facilities.  Bingo is available at no cost to youth and adults of all ages.
Castle Farms will also be offering tours at a discounted price throughout the day.

CASTLE GARDEN GAMES


Tuesday, July 24th
East Park
1:30 pm – 5 pm

Castle Farms will once again take over East Park with Castle Garden Games and trains!  The Castle will have a wooden-child propelled train, croquet, bocce ball, corn hole toss and a bean bag toss set up within the park.  All Castle Garden Games are free and open to all ages.

CORNETIAN CORN TOSS

Cornetian Corn Toss had its debut last year and grew to popularity almost immediately.  In its sophmore year, Cornetian is expected to be even more popular, so make sure to get registered as soon as it becomes available.

COTTAGE CROQUET TOURNAMENT

The annual Cottage Croquet Tournament will take place on a new day and location this year, Friday, July 27th at 1:30 pm in East Park.  The Cottage Croquet Tournament happens every year to determine who get to go first in the Venetian Street Parade.  Play is open to all ages.

DISC GOLF


Sunday, July 22nd
Mt. McSauba Disc Golf Course
1 pm – End

Disc Golf will take place this year on its new day, Sunday, July 22nd at Mt. McSauba.  On-site registration will start at 12-Noon at the Mountain Lodge, with the competition starting at 1 pm.

Registration fee of $40 for a junior/rec team and $60 for an advanced team applies.
Must bring own partner.
Competition is based on best shot doubles.

FOOT RACES


Saturday, July 28th
Start: Corner of Park Avenue & Grant Streets
Finish Line: Bridge Street

An individual event drawing quite the crowd in past years is the Jeff Drenth Memorial Foot Race, which takes place at the end of Venetian week on Celebration Saturday, July 28th.  The event, in memory of Charlevoix’s finest distance runner, will start at downtown and features a 5k, 10k and Family Mile.

Packet pick-up is available on Friday, July 27th from 4 pm – 6 pm & July 28th from 6:30 am – 8:30 am at the First Congregational Church of Charlevoix, just east of the starting line.

RYAN SHAY MILE

Bridge Street
Directly before the Venetian Festival Street Parade

Starting at the intersection of US 31 and M-66, and finishing near Park Avenue in downtown Charelvoix the Ryan Shay mile is an all-out run that features top male and female runners, by invitation only, and offers prizes as high as $1,000 for first place in both the Men’s and Women’s leagues.  The event, in its seventh year, is in memory of Shay, a Central Lake High School alumnus and Olympic prospect who died in 2007 while competing in a race.

SAILING


Tuesday, July 24th
Depot Beach North
10:30 am

This year the Junior Sailing Regatta will take place on Tuesday, July 24th with the Venetian Cup sailing Regatta taking place on Wednesday, July 25th.

The Junior event will take place at Depot Beach.  Registration is from 9 – 10 am with a Skippers meeting beginning at 10 am.  Boat Launch and Race begins at 10:30 am.

The “Cup” race takes place in the evening, starting at Ferry Beach, and the fleet can be viewed on Lake Charlevoix from spectator boats or shore from 5:30 pm until dusk.

3-on-3 Soccer begins at Shanahan Field on Tuesday, July 24th with finals on Wednesday, July 25th if there is a need to carry over to the next day.

SWIMMING


Monday, July 23rd
Charlevoix Area Community Pool
4 pm

Youth and Adult swimming championships will take place at the newly renovated Charlevoix Area Community Pool on Monday, July 23rd.  Warm-ups will begin at 3:15 pm.  Races, which include freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and the breaststroke, will begin at 4 pm.  Participants are asked to register on-site at the Charlevoix Area Community Pool.  Late registrations are welcome.

Friday, July 20th; Finals are Thursday, July 26th
Stroud Park Courts

A tennis tournament for all ages is on Friday, July 20 at Stroud Park courts at Shanahan Field. Finals occur on Thursday, July 26.  Tournaments include both singles and doubles play, with senior categories in both.

Pre-registration is required for this event by 4 pm on Thursday, July 19th at the Charlevoix Venetian Festival headquarters.

VOLLEYBALL

Starting at noon the ever popular co-ed volleyball  tournament will take place at the Ferry Beach courts as part of the AquaPalooza Boat Party festivities.  The annual volleyball tournament features teams of six vying to be the Venetian Festival champions.

Pre-registration is required.  Online registration will open in the spring.
Teams must include 6 people.
Registration fees of $90 per team apply.
